This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs will host the 2019 Polar Bear Final Qualifier this Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2 inside the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse ... The meet begins at 12 p.m. Friday with the men's heptathlon and the women's pentathlon competitions ... The men's heptathlon will conclude Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the final three events ... Field events are slated for 11 a.m. Saturday morning with running events to follow at 12 p.m. ... The meet will not be scored ... The men's indoor track and field program enters the meet with a 22-10 overall record and ranks sixth in the latest USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region power rankings ... Last weekend, the Polar Bears posted a fourth-place finish at the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships inside the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse ... Senior All-American Ian McVey topped the individual performances, claiming the 3,000-meter run event title with a 8:33.94 clocking and earning All-OAC honors with a second-place finish in the 5,000 ... Freshmen Nate Dean and Luke Shellhaas secured runner-up honors in the 400-meter dash and the pole vault, respectively ... Dean reset the freshman class record in the quarter-mile with a career-best :49.52 effort in Saturday's event finals ... Meanwhile, Shellhaas cleared 4.41 meters to lead three placers in the pole vault ... Sam Krabacher, Andrew Shelton, and the 4x400-meter relay squad rounded out the All-OAC honorees with top-three results over the weekend ... Krabacher and Shelton finished third in the 800 and 1,000 in 1:59.27 and 2:36.82, respectively ... Krabacher then joined Colin McCullough, Cody Benny, and Donovin Moran for a third-place mark in the 4x400 with a 3:30.41 ... Additionally, sophomore Owen Lloyd broke the school's 60-meter hurdle record during the two-day event, clocking an 8.52.
