ADA — Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) won the 800-meter run in a Div. I-dominated field to lead the Ohio Northern men's track and field team on the final day of the Raleigh Relays.
Molinaro won the race in 1:49.30 and claimed the event to lead ONU.
The junior currently owns the fastest time in the country in the event by nearly three seconds.
"Matt came into the race a little worried," said head coach Jason Maus. "He really got out well and had a great start to the race. He put himself in a really good position and just ran really well. He turned on another gear in the last 300 and finished really strong."
Senior Lucas Shumate (Wapakoneta/Spencerville) also competed for ONU in the javelin.
The senior posted a ninth place finish with a throw of 47.47 meters.
"Lucas had a pretty good weekend," said Maus. "He had a lot of really good competition and got a good chance to see where he is at this season. Lucas has a lot to look forward to this season and had a great start to the year."
Northern returns to action Saturday, Apr. 1 as they compete in the Centre (Ky.) Invitational.
