Men’s Track and Field finish 2nd at All-Ohio Championships, Schwab and Smith both provisionally qualify for nationals
The Ohio Northern men's track & field team finished another successful weekend of competition, finishing 2nd of 18 teams at the All-Ohio Championships, and two individuals provisionally qualifying for the NCAA championships.
The Polar Bears (19-2 overall) finished with 73 points at the All-Ohio meet at Otterbein, behind first place Ohio Wesleyan and its 98 points.
Baldwin-Wallace (71), Mount Union (67) and Heidelberg (49) rounded out the top five team finishes.
ONU earned three first-place finishes, including senior Cory Bailey's win in the 800 in 1:56.61. Classmate Dan Smith took first in the mile run in 4:18.26.
Bailey, senior Jacob Schwab, sophomore Evan McKee and freshman Chad Bridges won the 4x400 in 3:22.79.
McKee earned a second place finish in the 800 in 1:57.27, while sophomore Francisque Pierre-Jerome took second in the 60 dash in 7.03 and fourth in the 200 in 22.73.
Pierre-Jerome and Bridges also teamed up with sophomore Adrian Arias and freshman Jonathan Roseler for a third place finish in the 4x200 in 1:32.28.
Senior Joe Gutter finished third in the weight throw with toss of 52-1.
Friday night at the Grand Valley State Big Meet, Schwab and Smith each provisionally qualified for next month's NCAA Track Championships in Grinnell, Iowa.
Schwab, who is already a two-time All-American from last season, finished the 400 dash in 49.03, while Smith finished the mile in 4:09.41.
Northern returns home to host its Polar Bear Invitational next Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.
