Men's Track & Field gets glimpse of conference competition at OAC Black Split Meet at Wilmington
WILMINGTON — The Polar Bear men's track & field team got a preview of conference competition ahead of the league championships at the end of the month Saturday while competing at the OAC Black Split Meet.
ONU finished 3rd of 5 teams with 119 points and stands at an 8-2 record in the outdoor season. Heidelberg finished first with 203 points, followed by Wilmington with 120. Otterbein took forth (101 points) and Capital finished fifth (63 points.).
Senior Ryan Fleming (Maitland, Fla./Lyman) and freshman Francisque Pierre-Jerome (Lauderhill, Fla./South Plantation) took first and third, respectively, in the 100-meter dash. Fleming finished in 10.98, followed by Pierre-Jerome in 11.23.
Junior Jacob Schwab (Willard/Monroeville) and senior Shane Huntley (Sandusky/Perkins) also took first and third in the 400-meter run, with Schwab taking the tape in 49.24 and Huntley crossing at 51.64.
Second-place finishes included senior Travis Isenberg (Kingsville/Edgewood) in the 800-meter run (2:00.39) and senior Garrett Brown (Atwater/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) in the 400-meter hurdles (55.34).
Freshman Richard Patterson (Lebanon) took 3rd in the 800-meter run in 2:00.88.
In field events, senior Tim Pollack (Medina) took second in the javelin (144-2).
Junior Jarrod Stevens (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) finished second in the long jump (20-2.50), while classmate Thomas Steinberger (Roundhead/Upper Scioto Valley) took second in the triple jump with a 40-4 mark. Steinberger also finished the long jump in third place at a 19-4.25 mark.
Third place finishers included Jason Aukerman in the javelin (143-7) and Tyler Borton (Clarksville/Clinton Massie) in the pole vault, clearing a height of 13-7.25.
Northern competes again at Adrian College (Mich.) next Saturday to compete in the All-American Invitational. Events are scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
