Men's Tennis defeats Wheaton (Mass.), falls to Hampden-Sydney (Va.) on second day of spring break trip

The Ohio Northern men's tennis team continued its spring break trip with a 5-2 victory over Wheaton (Mass.) at Altamonte Springs and a 6-1 loss to Hampden-Sydney (Va.) at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando on Tuesday.
The Basics

Match 1 - ONU 5, WC 2
- ONU swept the doubles courts, then won four of the six singles courts to record the victory.
- Senior Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) and sophomore Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's) won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
- Junior T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and freshman Noah Boyce (Oakwood) twon 7-6 at No. 2 doubles.
- Senior Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) won 7-5, 7-5 at No. 1 singles.
- Senior Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) and sophomore Kessler Hackenberger (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
- Schultz won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
- Wood won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
- Boyce won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.
- Hackenberger won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
- The Lyons won the No. 1 and 6 singles courts.
Match 2 - ONU 1, HSU 5
- The Tigers swept the doubles courts to go up 1-0, then won five of the singles courts to win the match.
- Wood won by retirement 2-6, 4-3 at No. 3 singles.
Notables
- Wood was a team-best 3-1 on the day.
- The NCAA had adopted a 7-point team scoring system for Division III, where the three doubles contests only count for one team point as is used in NCAA Divisions I and II.
- Boyce leads the team with an 12-4 singles record and a 19-13 overall record.
- Wood is right behind with an 11-5 single mark and an 18-15 overall record.
- Five different players have seven doubles wins.
- Specht is 112-73 overall in his career, which includes a 52-39 singles mark and a 59-34 doubles record.
- Third-year head coach Sean Swisher is 37-17 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of .685.
