NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team opened up its spring schedule with a 4-3 victory over Greenville (Ill.) and a 5-2 victory over Anderson (Ind.) on the first day the Transylvania (Ky.) Winter Classic on Saturday.

The Basics

  • Records: Ohio Northern (2-0 Overall); Greenville (3-1 Overall); Anderson (2-3 Overall).
  • Venue: Top Seed Tennis Club - Nicholasville, Ky.

Individual Highlights

  • Junior T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.), sophomore Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's) and freshman Noah Boyce (Oakwood) each posted 3-1 records.
  • Each of the three men went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play
  • Against, Greenville, ONU won the doubles point by winning at #2 and 3 doubles, then won at Nos. 2-3-4 singles to win the match 4-3.
  • Against Anderson, Northern dropped the doubles point, but won at Nos. 1-5 singles to rally for the 5-2 win.

Notables

  • This is the first two of three matches ONU is scheduled to compete in over the weeknd.
  • The NCAA had adopted a 7-point team scoring system for Division III, where the three doubles contests only count for one team point as is used in NCAA Divisions I and II.
  • Third-year head coach Sean Swisher is 31-14 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of .689.
