ORLANDO, Fla. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team opened its annual spring break trip with a 6-3 victory over Macalester (Minn.) on Sunday night at the United States Tennis Academy.

The Basics

The Match

  • Northern swept the three doubles courts and won singles courts at Nos. 3, 4 and 6 to notch the win.
  • Junior Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) and freshman Tyler Wood (Toldeo/St. John's Jesuit) won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and freshman Kessler Hackenberger (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) and junior Drew Swisher (Findlay) won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles to give ONU a 2-0 lead.
  • Junior Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) and sophomore T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 1.
  • Wood made it 4-0 Polar Bears with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
  • Hackenberger clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
  • MC would take the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 singles courts to pull within 5-3.
  • Schultz wrapped up the match with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
