Men's Tennis begins defense of OAC title with 9-0 sweep of Marietta

LIMA — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team began the defense of its 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title on Saturday with a 9-0 victory over Marietta indoors at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-6 overall and are 1-1 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 3-6, 0-1.
Northern swept the three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) and freshman T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.) won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, sophomores Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) and Drew Swisher (Findlay) won 8-2 at No. 2 and sophomore Tristan Munteanu (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon) and junior Kavya Desai (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
The Polar Bears then won all six singles matches to complete the 9-0 victory.
Munteanu won 6-0, 6-1 at No.1, Specht won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Desai won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, Swisher won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, freshman Nico Rogel (Alicante, Spain/Hoosac) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and senior Isaac Spar (Ada) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
The team honored its 2022 OAC Championship squad in a pre-match ceremony.
The Polar Bears return to action on Sunday at 2 pm against Wittenberg at Dayton.
