ADA — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team went 27-13 overall at the inaugural 2-of-3 Challenge Saturday and Sunday at the West Campus Courts.
Transylvania (Ky.) and Midway (Ky.) joined ONU on both days, while Ohio Wesleyan only competed on Saturday in the non-scoring event.
Players were matched up in pairs, playing together as a doubles team and then individually as singles foes with the team that wins two of the three courts winning the match and advancing in their respective bracket.
As OWU did not compete on Sunday, the bracket format was abandoned and the men just paired up and played.
Northern was 18-10 in singles play and 9-3 in doubles action, going 8-4 over its 12 matches on the weekend.
Midway finished 7-2, Transylvania was 5-7 and Ohio Wesleyan finished 0-7.
Individually, sophomore Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) went 6-1 to lead the Polar Bears. He was 3-0 in doubles play and 3-1 in singles action.
Senior Matt Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill/South), junior Kavya Desai (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and sophomore Tristan Munteanu (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon) all went 5-1 for ONU.
The Polar Bears are done competing for the fall and are scheduled to return to action March 4 when they host Wooster.
