Mount Union leads after Day 1 of 2012 OAC Championships
Ohio Northern rallied from a 31-point deficit into the lead on Day 2 of the 2012 Women’s Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday night at the University of Akron’s Ocasek Natatorium.
The three-time defending champion Polar Bears lead the team standings with 572 points, Mount Union is second with 506, John Carroll is third with 425, Baldwin-Wallace in fourth with 237, Wilmington is fifth with 186 and first-year participant Defiance is sixth with 149 points.
Ohio Northern’s 200 medley relay team of sophomores Jamie Garbash, Kasey Manko and Cait Munro and senior Allison Garbash set an OAC and ONU record in winning the title in 1:49.10 in the first event of the evening.
Ohio Northern freshman Taylor McCabe rallied to win the 400 I.M. going away, finishing better than four second ahead of the field in 4:40.18.
ONU sophomore Lindsey Rayhill defended her title in the 100 fly, winning in :58.71.
Mount Union senior Alyson Kolesar defended her OAC crown in the 200 free, winning in 1:56.30 and adding to her win total that includes the 500 free on Day 1.
Baldwin-Wallace sophomore Angela Musille won the 100 breast in 1:05.38, setting a new OAC record and surpassing the NCAA “B” Cut in the process.
It was also her second title of the Championships after winning he 200 I.M. on Thursday.
John Carroll junior Julia Adams made it three victories in a row in the 100 back, taking the title in :58.33.
Julie Pinter of Baldwin-Wallace won her second consecutive 3-meter diving title, posting a score of 481.40.
In the final event of the day, Mount Union’s 800-yard relay team of junior Sarah Noble, Gabel, senior Harrison Taylor and Kolesar set a new OAC record by more than three seconds, winning in 7:49.49.
The final day of the three-day championships will continue on Saturday.
