Cubberley, Spyker compete on 1-meter board at NCAA III Diving Regionals

GRANVILLE — Junior Holden Cubberley (Celina) and senior Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) competed in the 1-meter diving competiton of the NCAA Division I Region 1 Diving Championships on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (8-4 overall)
- Venue: Trumbull Aquatics Center - Granville, Ohio
- The 1-meter diving competition consisted of 21 divers doing 11 dives each.
Meet Highlights
- Cubberley scored 375.80 points in his 11 dives, which was good for 16th place.
- Spyker finished 20th with 289.45 points.
Notables
- The meet consists of the 3-meter diving on Friday and the 1-meter diving on Saturday.
- Both men were hindered by 0.0 scores on each of their fifth dives in the competition.
- The top six individuals, with selections based on results from both boards, will earn bids to compete at the NCAA III Championships March 20-23 in Greensboro, N.C.
- Cubberley is making his third appearance at the Diving Regionals and participated in the 2022 NCAA III Championships.
- He was sixth in 2023 and ninth in 2022.
- He is also a 6-time Ohio Athletic Conference Champion and has won OAC Diver of the Year honors each of his first three seasons at ONU.
- Cubberley holds the school records for both the 1-meter (524.35 points) and 3-meter (527.30 points) diving competitions.
- He finished third out of 20 in the 3-meter diving on Friday with 430.50 points, giving him a solid change of advancing to the NCAA Championships.
- Spyker is also making his third appearance at the Regionals on the 1-meter board, having finished 32nd in 2023 and 25th in 2022.
- Austin Veltman is 31-17 in his sixth season as head coach of the Polar Bears.
