Men's Swimming and Diving opens season with 2-0 record at Bethel (Ind.) Tri-Meet

ELKHART, Ind. — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team opened its 2023-24 season by defeating Aquinas (Mich.) and Bethel (Ind.) at the Bethel Tri-Meet at the Elkhart Aquatics Center on Saturday.

Meet Highlights
- Ohio Northern defeated Aquinas 182-111 and Bethel 171-120.
- The Polar Bears won 6 of the 16 events - 5 individual events and the 200 free relay.
- Sophomore Selby Wilt (Findlay) won three events to lead the Polar Bears.
- Wilt won the 50 free in :21.37 and the 100 free in :48.60.
- He also combined with sophomore Aiden Magoolaghan (Hinckley/Highland), senior Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) and sophomore Nathan Clark (Cleves/Elder) to win the 200 free in 1:27.85.
- Sophomore Tyler Edmonds (Youngsville, La./Southside) won the 200 breast in 2:17.32. He was also second in the 200 I.M. in 2:04.46 and the 200 free in 1:49.49.
- Junior Holden Cubberley (Celina) won the 3-meter diving with 242.55 points.
- Sophomore Long Huynh (Billings, Mt./West) won the 200 fly in 1:59.97. Huynh was also third in he 100 fly in :54.99 and the 200 I.M. in 2:05.56.
- Freshman Nathan Herbert (Medina/Highland) was second in the 500 free in 5:01.22 and was third in the 1650 free in 18:05.44.
- Freshman Riley Verb (Bluffton) was third in the 200 back in 2:05.32.
- Freshman Evan Miller (Cincinnati/La Salle) was third in the 200 fly in 2:09.57.
Notables
- The meet consisted of 16 events - 2 relays, 2 diving events and 12 individual races.
- All three teams competed together and the meet was scored with three different head-to-head results.
- The meet was the first of 11 regular season contests for Ohio Northern.
- Austin Veltman is now 25-13 in his sixth season as head coach of the Polar Bears.
