Cubberley, Horgan, Morando, Spyker named Academic All-District in Men’s Swimming and Diving by College Sports Communicators

ADA — Sophomores Holden Cubberley (Celina), Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas), Vincent Morando (Mansfield/Lexington) and junior Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) were named Academic All-District in men's swimming and diving by College Sports Communicators.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District Men's Swimming and Diving Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-March.
Cubberley is a two-time Ohio Athletic Conference Diver of the Year who has won the conference championship in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions as a freshman and sophomore.
Named to the CSCAA Scholar All-American First Team last season, Cubberley ended his freshman season by placing 18th on the 1-meter board and 19th on the 3-meter board at the NCAA Championships.
This season, Cubberley broke the school record in 3-meter diving with a score of 527.30 and broke both the school and OAC record in 1-meter diving with a score of 524.35 in winning the conference title in both events.
Cubberley qualified for the NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Championships this season and placed 13th on the 3-meter board and sixth on the 1-meter board.
Horgan is a four-time All-OAC honoree. He earned All-OAC accolades in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay last season and was All-Conference in the 200 free relay again this season.
Morando has scored 45 OAC Championships points in his career. He placed eighth in the 400 IM, ninth in the 200 breast and 11th in the 100 breast at the 2022 OAC Championships. This season, he finished 10th in both the 200 breast and 400 IM and 12th in the 100 breast at the OAC Championships.
Spyker is a four-time All-OAC performer who has succeeded as both a swimmer and a diver in his ONU career.
He was All-OAC in the 200 medley and 400 medley relay events as well as the 1-meter diving last season and ended the year with a 25th-place finish in 1-meter diving at the NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Championships. He was also selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-American Second Team.
Spyker once again earned All-OAC accolades in 1-meter diving at this year's OAC Championships and went on to place 32nd at the Region 1 Championships.
The Polar Bears finished 7-2 overall in dual meets this season and placed third at the OAC Championships.
