Freshman Selby Wilt breaks school record in 50 free to lead Men's Swimming and Diving on Day 2 of the 2023 OAC Championships

AKRON — Freshman Selby Wilt (Findlay) broke the school record in the 50-yard free to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team on day two of the 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday evening at the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron.
Wilt swam a :20.37 to finish second in the event and earn All-Conference accolades. His time of :20.47 in the prelims Thursday morning initially broke the previous record of :20.84 set by Mitchell Murphy in 2015. His time also surpassed the NCAA "B" Cut in the event.
Senior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) earned All-OAC honors in the 500 free, finishing second in 4:41.33. Freshman Carter Detweiler (Newton, Pa/Council Rock) finished just behind in fourth place in 4:41.99.
The 200-yard free relay team of Wilt, sophomore Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas), freshman Aiden Magoolaghan (Hinckley/Highland) and freshman Nathan Clark (Cleves/Elder) earned All-Conference honors with a second place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:22.95 in the first event of the night.
Northern ended the day with a third place finish in the 400 medley relay. Junior Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee), Clark, senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) and Wilt touched in 3:28.33.
ONU has 179 points to stand third after six of the 20 events in the four-day championships meet.
John Carroll leads the team standings with 315 points, Mount Union is second with 208 points, Baldwin Wallace is fourth with 131 points and Wilmington is fifth with 124 points.
The top three finishers in the 15 individual events and the top two relay teams in each of the five relay events earn All-Conference honors, while the top 16 swimmers in each event score team points in each event.
The third day of competition will be Friday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 6 pm.
