Men’s Swimming and Diving opens season with 218-65 win over Wilmington

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team took first place in 14 of 16 events en route to a 218-65 win over Wilmington on Friday night at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears open the 2022-23 season at 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while dropping the Quakers to 0-1, 0-1.
Freshmen Aiden Magoolaghan (Hinckley/Highland) and Nathan Clark (Cleves/Elder) and sophomore Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas) led the way for ONU on Friday with three victories each.
Magoolaghan won the 100-yard fly in :55.30 and the 100-yard back in :56.67 and joined Horgan and freshmen Selby Wilt (Findlay) and Isaac Reddy (Maryland Heights, Mo./Pattonville) in winning the 200-yard free relay in 1:27.13.
Horgan added that victory to his top finishes in the 100-yard free and the 200-yard medley relay.
He finished the 100-yard free in :48.06 and joined junior Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee), freshman Tyler Edmonds (Youngsville, La./Southside) and senior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) in winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.50.
All three of Clark's victories came in individual events.
He won the 50-yard breast in :27.25, the 50-yard fly in :23.75 and the 100-yard IM in :55.97.
Edmonds scored a second victory on the night in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 10:33.79.
Wilt and Reddy also added an individual victory to their relay win.
Wilt won the 50-yard back in :25.09, and Reddy won the 50-yard free in :22.46.
Freshman Carter Detweiler (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) won the 200-yard free in 1:46.01.
Sophomore Holden Cubberley (Celina) won both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions, scoring 276.40 and 271.00 points, respectively.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29, at OAC foe John Carroll at 1 p.m.
