Cubberley finishes 9th, Spyker 25th on 1-Meter board at NCAA III Diving Regionals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) placed ninth and sophomore Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) was 25th out of 30 divers on the 1-meter board on the final day of the NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Venema Aquatic Center.
Cubberley scored 421.90 points on his 11 dives and Spyker scored 345.75 points on his 11 dives.
Combined with his fifth place finish on the 3-meter board on Saturday, Cubberley has put himself in solid position to grab one of the qualifying spots for the NCAA III Championships March 16-19 in Indianapolis.
The field of divers for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Monday and are based on results of both the 1- and 3-meter events. Depending on results of all four Regional competitions, 6-10 divers from Region 1 are expected to be chosen with the committee meets on Monday.
Cubberley was named the OAC Men's Diver of the Year last weekend as swept the 1- and 3-meter events at the OAC Championships. He broke the school record in the 3-meter diving competition with 500.75 points for 11 dives, surpassing the NCAA "B" Cut and broke the previous record of 493.00 set by Braden Kuhn in 2018.
Spyker was All-OAC in the 1-meter, finishing third with 434.15 points.
