Cubberley, Spyker lead Men's Swimming and Diving into second place on Day 2 of OAC Championships

AKRON — Freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) won the 1-meter diving competition and sophomore Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) finished third in the event to lead Ohio Northern on Day 2 of the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Friday night at Ocasek Natatorium.
Both men earned All-OAC honors and surpassed the NCAA "B" Cut with their performances and have qualified for the NCAA III Central Regionals next weekend at Grand Rapids, Mich.
Cubberly finished with 491.75 points and Spyker had 434.15 points.
Senior Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) set a school record and also had a "B" Cut effort to earn All-OAC kudos in the 100 breast for the fourth straight year, finishing second in :55.36.
Junior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) earned All-Conference accolades in the 400 I.M. for the second consecutive year, touching third in 4:42.10.
The Polar Bears are in second place out of five teams through 13 of 20 events with 400 points.
John Carroll leads with 630 points, Mount Union is third with 393.5, Baldwin Wallace is fourth with 242.5 and Wilmington is fifth with 159.
Spyker, Adams, senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) and sophomore Ben Lacey (Lebanon) began the evening with an All-Conference effort in the 200 medley relay, finishing second in 1:32.70.
Spyker also had a seventh place finish in the 100 back to account for 37 team points on the evening.
The top three finishers in individual events and top two finishers in relays earn All-Conference honors.
The third and final day of the Championships will get underway on Saturday with prelims at 10 am.
