Cope, Lacey win events as Men's Swimming & Diving drops 164-74 dual meet at Mount Union

ALLIANCE — Sophomore Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) won the 500 free and freshman Ben Lacey (Lebanon) won the 200 fly to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team in a 164-74 setback at Mount Union at Hammond Natatorium Friday evening.
The Polar Bears fall to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the Purple Raiders finish their regular season 3-1, 3-1.
Cope and freshman Patrick Wellman (Dublin/Jerome) finished 1-2 in the 500 free, touching in 4:57.51 and 4:58.59, respectively.
Lacy won the 200 fly in 1:58.35.
Cope also placed second in the 400 I.M. in 4:20.69.
Junior Mike Lewandowski (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) was second in the 50 free in :22.51.
Freshman Evan Sailor (Goshen, Ind.) was second in the 1-meter diving with 193.90 points and freshman Wes Richards (Pinckney, Mich.) was second in the 200 breast in 2:17.56.
The 400 medley relay team of freshman Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee), Jarret Schaffer (Norwalk/St. Paul), junior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) and Lacey were second in 3:41.81.
The Polar Bears will look to grab a share of the OAC Regular Season title with a dual meet at league-leading John Carroll on Saturday at 1 pm in the regular season finale for both teams.
