Men’s Swimming & Diving topples Wilmington 206-55

WILMINGTON — The dual meet season couldn't have started any better for the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team. The Polar Bears won every event Friday night en route to defeating Wilmington 206-55.
The 200-meter medley relay team — of Ryan Groehl (Marysville), Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer), Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) and Zach Ayres (Chillicothe) — got things started, touching first in a time of 1:49.23.
Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) kept things rolling, winning the 800-meter freestyle after recording a time of 8:59.97. Cope touched first in the 200-meter individual medley, as well, registering a time of 2:17.22.
Adams topped the field in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:01.05. Adams also won the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:25.31.
Groehl and Justin DeLano (Englewood / Northmont) tied for first in the 50-meter freestyle both logging times of 28.47. Groehl also placed first in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 27.63, and DeLano took first in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.82.
Logan Randall (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain) claimed a first-place finish in the 100-meter butterfly clocking in at 1:02.08. Randall also placed first in the 100-meter freestyle, registering a time of 56.06.
Stanley paced the field in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:04.98. Ian Kogucki (Kingwood, Tex./Kingwood) won the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 31.35, and Pat Reed took first in the 100-meter breaststroke, clocking in at 1:09.14.
The 200-meter medley relay team — of Adams, Ayres, Noah Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) and Jack Kessler (Catawba Island/Port Clinton) — capped the night, placing first with a time of 1:41.14.
Northern has a quick turnaround as it hosts John Carroll Saturday at 1 p.m.
