Huey notches second conference title to guide Men's Swimming & Diving on second day at OAC Championships

AKRON — Junior Nolan Huey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) secured his second 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship event title Friday evening, leading the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving program's efforts on day two at the OAC Championships inside Ocasek Natatorium in Akron.
The junior dominated the 400 IM with a 4:03.06 touch, defeating the field by over four seconds to earn his eighth career conference crown.
After two days of competition, the Polar Bears stand second in the meet standings with 491.5 team points. John Carroll continues to lead the event with 620 points through 13 events.
To kick off the evening, Huey, senior Anthony Ferrell (Canton/Glen Oak), sophomore Zach Ayres (Chillicothe), and senior Justin Chapman (Springboro) teamed up for a 1:32.14 clocking in the 200 medley relay. The quartet secured a runner-up finish and earned All-OAC honors for the effort.
In the 100 breast, Northern would register three top-five finishes from freshman Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer), Ferrell, and sophomore Pat Reed (Charleston, W.Va./Washington). Adams and Ferrell finished second and third in :56.91 and :56.98, respectively, to claim All-OAC honors while Reed ended fifth in :57.35.
Adams, Huey, senior Pete He (Mason), and freshman Justin DeLano (Englewood/Northmont) rounded out the evening with All-OAC honors in the 800 free relay after finishing second in 6:58.47.
Ayres went on to claim his third all-conference recognition in the 100 fly competition. The sophomore from Chillicothe clocked a :51.03 effort to take third place and lead six Polar Bears who scored in the event.
Additionally, freshman Connor Rettammel (Apex, N.C./Friendship) recorded a top-five finish in the 400 IM. He took home fourth place with a 4:17.72 clocking.
Sophomore Dylan Boyd (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) topped Friday night's diving efforts, finishing sixth in the three-meter dive competition with 329.15 points.
The OAC Swimming and Diving Championships will conclude tomorrow with a preliminary round scheduled for 11 a.m. and event finals beginning at 5:45 p.m. inside Ocasek Natatorium.
