Junior Nolan Huey defends 200 IM OAC title as Men's Swimming and Diving sits second after day one at OAC Championships

AKRON — Junior Nolan Huey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) successfully defended his Ohio Athletic Conference 200-yard IM title, leading the Polar Bears on day one at the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Ocasek Natatorium in Akron.
After one day at the OAC Championships, ONU sits second in the team standings with 201 points. John Carroll currently leads the event with 257 points, and Mount Union rounds out the top-three teams with 169 points.
Huey secured his second consecutive OAC title in the 200 individual medley with a 1:51.98 clocking Thursday evening. He edged out second-place finisher Adam Lenz from John Carroll by just one second and lead four Polar Bears scoring in the event.
In the 200 free relay, senior Pete He (Mason), sophomore Zach Ayres (Chillicothe), freshman Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer), and senior Justin Chapman (Springboro) earned All-OAC honors with a runner-up finish in 1:23.34.
He and Chapman went on to place second and fourth in the 50 free, respectively. He finished in :20.91 and garnered his second All-OAC accolade while Chapman clocked a :21.13.
The Polar Bears continued to see success in the relay events, taking second in the 400 medley relay to conclude the first night of competition. Huey, senior Anthony Ferrell (Canton/Glen Oak), He, and Chapman reached the wall in 3:26.17 to earn All-OAC kudos.
In the event, Huey tied his own school record with a :50.53 100-yard back leg.
Northern would place four individuals in the 500 free, led by freshman Chris Walton (Greenfield, Ind./Eastern Hancock) with a seventh-place mark in 4:51.16.
The three-day OAC Swimming and Diving Championships will resume tomorrow morning with preliminary rounds scheduled at 10 a.m. and finals scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Ocasek Natatorium. The championships will conclude Saturday with 11 a.m. preliminary rounds and finals beginning at 5:45 p.m.
