JCU's Carly Adams wins twice, sets one record, on Day 2 of 2018 Women's OAC Swimming & Diving Championships

AKRON — John Carroll's Carly Adams won two events, including one in record-breaking style, on the second day of the 2018 Women's Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
Adams shattered the OAC record in the 400 I.M. by nearly four seconds, touching in an NCAA "B" Cut 4:29.99. She broke the record of 4:33.94 set in 2014 by Julia Johnson of Transylvania (Ky.) and has now won the event three c onsecutive seasons.
Later in the meet, Adams successfully defended her 2017 OAC crown in the 100 back by winning in :57.27.
Gwyn Ledrick of John Carroll tied the OAC record in the 100 breast with a 1:05.11 clocking in the prelims on Friday morning, then broke that record by winning the event in 1:04.14 in the finals on Friday night. Her effort surpassed the mark set by Morgan Cyrus of Transylvania (Ky.) in 2017.
Erika Nockengost of Baldwin Wallace led a 1-2 Yellow Jacket finish in the 100 fly in :57.83, edging teammate Marissa Kural by .56 of a second.
Mount Union's Dana Lautenschleger won her third consecutive title in the 200 free in 1:54.13, a full three seconds ahead of the field.
Ashley Cresap of John Carroll successfully defended her 2017 title in the 3-meter diving with 373.20 points.
John Carroll opened the evening by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:45.76, posting its third straight win in the event.
Mount Union wrapped up the evening by winning the 800 free relay title for the fourth consecutive season, finishing three seconds ahead of second place Baldwin Wallace in 7:51.45.
The top three finishers in each individual event and the top two relay teams earn All-Conference honors.
JCU holds a 593.5-434 lead over Mount Union in the team standings. Ohio Northern holds a 367.5-367 lead over Baldwin Wallace for third and Wilmington is fifth with 186 points through 13 of the 20 events.
The third and final day of the Championships is Saturday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 5:30 pm.
