Senior Jordan Breitigam earns Honorable Mention All-America honors in 200 Fly for the third consecutive year

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Ohio Northern senior All-American Jordan Breitigam finished sixth in the 200 fly consolation finals Friday night and 14th out of 33 swimmers overall in 1:50.37 at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium.
He is now a three-time Honorable Mention All-American in the 200 fly, finishing ninth last year in 1:47.46 and finishing 13th at the 2012 NCAA III Championships.
His preliminary heat time of 1:49.90 Friday afternoon was got him into the consolation finals.
He is the school record holder in all three of his NCAA Championships events.
Breitigam was ranked No. 10 nationally in the 200 fly with an NCAA "B" Cut time of 1:49.51 this season.
"He had a wonderful career," ONU head coach Peggy Ewald said. "I know he wanted a better finish today, wanted to get on the podium and get a top eight finish. But he gave it his all and should be very proud of what he has accomplished. He has many school records that will last for a long time."
"I'm happy with my effort," Breitigam said. "I gave it everything I had. It was a great experience. I wish this year had turned out a bit better, but I worked very hard all year and I can't ask for much more."
In 2013, Breitigam won the consolation final with the third-fastest time of any swimmer at the championships to finish ninth overall.
On Thursday, Breitigam finished 19th out of 44 swimmers in the 100 fly in :49.50.
He entered the meet ranked 17th with a qualifying effort of :49.28 and finished just .15 of a second out of a top-16 finish.
Breitigam finished 57th of 63 swimmers in 1:55.33 in the 200 I.M. on Wednesday. He was seeded 42nd in the event with a qualifying time of 1:53.30.
The top eight in each event earn All-American status and finishers 9-16 earn Honorable All-American honors.
Breitigam scored three team points with his 14th place finish, puttung Ohio Northern in 47th place in the team standings.
