Senior All-American Jordan Breitigam finishes 19th in the 100 fly at the 2014 NCAA III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Ohio Northern senior All-American Jordan Breitigam finished sixth in his heat and 19th out of 44 swimmers overall in the 100 fly in :49.50 Thursday morning at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium.

Breitigam entered the meet ranked 17th with a qualifying effort of :49.28 and finished just .15 of a second out of a top-16 finish.

The heat was delayed a few moments for a re-start, and Breitigam came off the blocks a bit slowly.

"Jordan had a very solid swim," ONU head coach Peggy Ewald said. "I think his reaction time off the block was slower that it would have been if there was no restart. That doesn't happen very often and is difficult to train for. But this was a good effort and gets him even more prepared for tomorrow's 200 fly, which is his premier event." 

He is a two-time Honorable Mention All-American in the 200 fly, finishing ninth last year in 1:47.46 and finishing 13th at the 2012 NCAA III Championships.

"I am happy with the swim, but disappointed that it didn't get me in the top 16," Breitigam said. "It was much better than yesterday though and was good preparation for the 200 fly on Friday."

Breitigam finished 57th of 63 swimmers in 1:55.33 in the 200 I.M. on Wednesday. He was seeded 42nd in the event with a qualifying time of 1:53.30.

The is the second of three events for Breitigam, who will swim his strongest event, the 200 fly, on Friday morning at 10 am.

Breitigam is ranked No. 10 nationally in the 200 fly with an NCAA "B" Cut time of 1:49.51 and is ranked No. 17 in the 100 fly with an NCAA "B" Cut time of :49.28.

The top eight in each event earn All-American status and finishers 9-16 earn Honorable All-American honors.
