Keriazes, Breitigam set school records, surpass NCAA cuts to lead Men's Swimming & Diving to second place finish at the Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — Senior Drew Keriazes and junior Jordan Breitigam each set school records and surpassed NCAA qualifying standards to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team to a second place finish at the Wooster Invitational on Thursday-Saturday.
Keriazes set the school record and bettered the NCAA "B" cut in the 100 breast, winning the event in :56.54.
Breitigam broke the school record in the 100 fly and surpassed the NCAA "B" cut, winning in :49.57.
Senior Marc Anderson also surpassed the NCAA "B" cut in the 100 fly, finishing fifth in :50.45.
The Polar Bears were second of 10 teams with 1475.5 points and won five of the 20 events.
Case Western Reserve won the team title with 1630 points, NCAA Division II Gannon (Pa.) was third with 1063.5 points and NCAA Division II Edinboro (Pa.) was fourth with 986 points.
Keriazes also finished second in the 200 breast in 2:06.24 and was third in the 200 I.M. in 1:56.24.
Breitigam also placed second in the 200 fly in 1:55.37.
Anderson had two other top-8 finishes in the meet, placing seventh in the 200 fly in 1:58.24 and placing eighth in the 50 free in :21.77.
Junior John Beaschler was fourth in the 100 free in :47.01, was sixth in the 50 free in :21.64 and was sixth in the 200 free in 1:46.55.
Sophomore Spencer Franzoi was second in the 400 I.M. in 4:14.97 and was eighth in the 200 breast in 2:12.88.
Freshman Jacob Croasdell was fifth in the 1650 free in 16:54.24 and was seventh in the 500 free in 4:50.31.
Junior Kyle Rex was fourth in the 3-meter diving with 371.60 points and was fifth in the 1-meter diving with 359.25 points and freshman Tyler Siefring was sixth in the 1-meter diving with 311.25 points.
Junior Erik Arent was sixth in the 200 fly in 1:57.95, sophomore Brian Heilbronner was seventh in the 100 back in :53.22, junior Christian Garlock was seventh in the 100 free and freshman Tyler Lucian was seventh in the 200 breast in 2:12.70.
The Polar Bears also won three times and had top-8 finishes in all five relay events.
The team of Heilbronner, Keriazes, Breitigam and Beaschler won the 200 medley relay in 1:32.75 and won the 400 medley relay in 3:26.25.
Garlock, Keriazes, Anderson and Beaschler also won the 200 free relay in 1:24.53.
The 400 free relay team of Beaschler, Heilbronner, Keriazes and Garlock was third in the 400 free relay and sophomore Chris Hoffman, Croasdell, freshman Fabio Napolitano Jacob and Wood were seventh in the 800 free relay in 7:12.85.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday when they will host Defiance and Findlay in a tri-meet at 1 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
