Drew Keriazes, Jordan Breitigam set school records, surpass NCAA cuts to lead Men's Swimming & Diving on Day 2 of the Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — Senior Drew Keriazes and junior Jordan Breitigam each set school records and surpassed NCAA qualifying standards to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team on Day 2 of theWooster Invitational on Friday.
Keriazes set the school record and bettered the NCAA "B" cut in the 100 breast, winning the event in :56.54.
Breitigam broke the school record in the 100 fly and surpassed the NCAA "B" cut, winning in :49.57.
Senior Marc Anderson also surpassed the NCAA "B" cut in the 100 fly, finishing fifth in :50.45.
The trio also combined with junior John Beaschler to win the 200 medley relay in 1:32.04.
The Polar Bears are second of 10 teams through 12 of the 20 events with 953.5 points.
Case Western Reserve is in first with 990 points, NCAA Division II Gannon (Pa.) is in third with 726.5 points and NCAA Division II Edinboro (Pa.) is fourth with 713 points.
Keriazes led six ONU swimmers that placed in the 100 breast.
Freshman Connor Wood was seventh in the event in :59.57, senior Andy Garlock was 10th in 1:00.94, sophomore Jason Luthman was 14th in 1:01.54, freshman Tyler Lucien was 15th in 1:01.64 and sophomore Alex Clapsaddle was 22nd in 1:03.19.
The top 24 finishers in each event score team points. After the qualifying events in the afternoon, the swimmers are grouped into A, B and C finals races, where they compete for places 1-8, 9-16 and 17-24, respectively.
In the 100 fly, junior Erik Arent finished 15th in :53.44 and freshman Sean O'Neill was 20th in :53.38.
Sophomore Spencer Franzoi led a group of four placers in the 400 I.M. by finishing second in 4:14.97.
Senior Jeff Zeleznik was 11th in 4:21.89, freshman Jacob Croasdell was 14th in 4:25.13 and freshman Brett Bushong was 22nd in 4:37.55.
In the 200 free, Beaschler was sixth in 1:46.55, sophomore Chris Hoffman was 11th in 1:46.33, freshman Fabio Napolitano Jacob was 16th in 1:50.06 and senior Kevin Piccirilli was 20th in 1:49.52.
Five Polar Bears placed in the 100 back, led by sophomore Brian Heilbronner in seventh place in :53.22.
Senior Christian Garlock was 11th in :53.73, senior Max McClary was 17th in :54.61, O'Neill was 18th in :55.39 and Napolitano Jacob was 19th in :56.63.
The 800 free relay team of Hoffman, Croasdell, Napolitano Jacob and Wood placed seventh in 7:12.85.
The final day of the invitational will be on Saturday, with the prelims at 11 am and the finals at 6 pm.
