Men's Swimming sets school record in 400 Medley Relay; Sits in first place after Day 1 of Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — The 400-yard medley relay team set a school record, leading the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team into first place after the first day of the three-day Wooster Invitational on Thursday.
The team of sophomore Brian Heilbronner, senior Drew Keriazes, junior Jordan Breitigam and junior John Beaschler broke the school record in the 400 medley relay by winning the event in 3:26.25.
That effort bettered the previous mark of 3:27.68 set in 2011 by senior Max McClary, Keriazes, senior Marc Anderson and Anders Samuelson.
The Polar Bears are in first place out of 10 teams with 421.5 points through five of 20 events.
Case Western Reserve is second with 393 points, NCAA Division II Edinboro (Pa.) is third with 332.5 points and NCAA Division II Gannon (Pa.) is fourth with 318 points.
The team of junior Christian Garlock, Keriazes, Anderson and Beaschler also won the 200 free relay in 1:24.53, which is just .12 second off the school record 1:24.41.
Breitigam and Keriazes finished 2-3 in the 200 I.M., finishing in 1:55.37 and 1:56.24, respectively.
Four other Polar Bears scored team points by placing in the top 24. Sophomore Spencer Franzoi was 11th in 1:58.89, freshman Connor Wood was 12th in 2:01.63, senior Andy Garlock was 14th in 2:02.24 in the B Final and sophomore Jeff Zeleznik was 19th with a time of 2:00.98 in the C Final.
Beaschler and Anderson reached the A Final in the 50 free. Beaschler was sixth in :21.64 and Anderson was eighth in :21.77.
Christian Garlock finished tied for 10th in :21.74 and Heilbronner was 21st in :22.20.
In the 500 free, freshman Jacob Croasdell was seventh in 4:40.31, freshman Chris Hoffman was 10th in 4:49.24 and freshman ZAch Martin was 23rd in 5:04.89.
Day 2 of the meet will be held on Friday and the meet will wrap up on Saturday. prelims start at 11 am and the finals are at 6 pm each day.
