Michael Schultz, Jordan Breitigam compete on Day 1 of NCAA III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Ohio Northern senior Michael Schultz and sophomore Jordan Breitigam each competed in the first day of the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday morning at the IUPUI Natatorium.
Schultz finished 24th in the 500 free in 4:35.58 and Breitigam finished 46th in the 200 I.M. in 2:00.47.
The top 16 in each event qualify for the final each night, with the top eight finishers earning All-America honors and finishers 9-16 earning Honorable Mention All-America honors.
Schultz was seeded 13th in the 500 free with a qualifying effort of 4:33.07 and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors with a ninth place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championships.
He is a four-time NCAA qualifier in the 200, 500 and 1650 free and will compete in all three events this year.
Breitigam is making his first appearance in the NCAA Championships and qualified for the meet in the 200 fly, which he will swim on Friday.
He was also invited to compete in the 100 fly and the 200 I.M. as an NCAA "B" Cut qualifier.
Breitigam entered the meet ranked 56th nationally in the 200 I.M. with a qualifying time of 1:54.12.
He is ranked seventh nationally in the 200 fly (1:50.43) and is 42nd in the 100 fly (:50.15).
Both men will compete on Thursday morning, with Schultz going in the 200 free and Breitigam in the 100 fly.
