Schultz, Keriazes lead Men's Swimming and Diving to second place finish at Wooster Invitational
WOOSTER — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team (5-0 overall, 2-0 OAC) finished second of 10 teams with 1,456.5 points at the Wooster Invitational Thu.-Sat.
Case Western Reserve won the team title with 1467 points, NCAA Division II schools Edinboro (Pa.) and Gannon (Pa.) were third and fourth with 1,106.5 and 1,068 points, respectively.
Senior All-American Michael Schultz (New Berlin, Wis./Martin Luther) led the Polar Bears with two victories, two NCAA "B" Cuts and three top-10 finishes at the meet.
Schultz won the 500 free and the 1,650 free in NCAA "B" Cut times of 4:36.86 and 16:05.63, respectively.
He also finished second in the 200 free in 1:42.08 and was past of two ONU relay teams that posted second place finishes.
ONU relay teams finished second in all five relay events.
Junior Drew Keriazes (Springfield) broke two of his own school records and had three top-three finishes.
He won the 200 breast in 2:07.87 and was third in the 100 breast in :58.37, setting new school records in both events.
Keriazes was also second in the 200 I.M. in 1:56.28 and was part of three ONU relay teams.
Sophomore Jordan Breitigam (Wayne/Bowling Green) won the 200 fly in 1:53.14, finished third in the 100 fly in :50.78 and was seventh in the 200 I.M. in 1:59.59.
Senior Nick Meyer (Cleves/Taylor) was second in the 1-meter diving with 388.95 points and was third in the 3-meter diving with a score of 385.35 points.
Junior Albert Schmidt (Lorain/Clearview) placed fourth in the 1- and 3-meter diving with scores of 381.45 and 377.40, respectively.
Sophomore Kyle Rex (Napoleon) scored 333.30 points to finish fifth in the 1-meter and scored 321.20 points to finish fifth in the 3-meter diving.
Senior Anders Samuelson (Urbana/Springfield Catholic Central) was seventh in the 100 free in :48.02 and, was eighth in the 200 free in 1:46.33 and was part of four ONU relay teams.
Junior Marc Anderson (Napoleon) was fourth in both the 100 fly (:50.81) and the 200 fly (1:56.04).
Freshman Brian Heilbronner (Lorton, Va./Hayfield) was sixth in the 100 back in :53.80 and was eighth in the 100 free in :48.58.
ONU will return to action Sat. at home against OAC Swimming & Diving newcomer Defiance.
