Andrew Keriazes named OAC Men's Swimmer of the Week
ADA — Ohio Northern sophomore Drew Kariazes (Springfield) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week of Jan. 24 – 30.
Kariazes guided the Polar Bears (9-3, 4-0) to three victories last week. The Polar Bears defeated Notre Dame College (171-66), John Carroll (159-81) and Lake Erie (180-38). ONU fell to Case Western on Saturday 190-108.
The Polar Bears clinched their fifth consecutive OAC Regular Season title outright with the win over John Carroll.
Kariazes notched two relay wins during the quad meet. Joey Bechtel, Garrett Dauch, Marc Anderson and Karaizes took the 200 medley relay in 1:40.02. He teamed up with Anderson, Christian Garlock and Anders Samuelson to win the 200 free relay in 1:27.95.
Individually, Kariazes finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.09.
Kariazes captured three individual victories against Case Western Reserve. The sophomore won the 100 breast (1:00.30), 200 breast (2:12.85) and 200 IM (1:59.26).
To wrap up the weekend, Dauch, Anderson, Samuelson and Kariazes finished second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:34.14.
The Polar Bears return to action on Feb. 17-19 for the OAC Championships at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. each day.
