ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team fell 2-1 to No. 20 John Carroll on a rainy Saturday afternoon in a battle of two of the top teams in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings in the OAC Game of the Week.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (7-5-2 overall, 3-1-1 OAC), #20 John Carroll (11-2-1 overall, 5-0-0 OAC)

The Match
- The Blue Streaks got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Daniel Kalic in the 22nd minute and took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
- JCU increased its lead to 2-0 courtesy of a goal from Jaden Wright in the 65th minute.
- The Polar Bears cut the lead to 2-1 in the 80th minute when junior Will Shaffer (Galena/St. Francis DeSales) converted a penalty kick into a goal following a JCU foul in the goal box.
- Northern attempted three shots and had five corner kicks over the final 10 minutes but was unable to tie the score.
- Junior Lucas Hickey (Conroe, Tex./Oak Ridge) played all 90 minutes in goal for ONU and recorded two saves.
- The Polar Bears out-shot the Blue Streaks 13-10 in the game and had an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
Notables
- Shaffer's goal was his team-best sixth of the season, giving him a team-high 13 points. He now has nine career goals and 24 career points.
- Hickey is now 13-6-3 in his career in goal and has a 1.31 GAA this season.
- Fifth-year head coach Chris Matejka is now 50-26-14 at ONU.
