CHICAGO, Ill. — A late goal from junior Nolan Schirmer (Amelia/West Clermont) sent the Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at No. 25 North Park (Ill.) on Saturday night in the third game of its current five-game road trip.

The Match
- The Polar Bears opened the scoring with a goal from junior Will Shaffer (Galena/St. Francis DeSales) in the 22nd minute on assists from juniors Brenden Gervers (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Tanner Locke (Canton, Mich./Salem). Shaffer got ahead of the North Park defense, took a pass from Gervers and sent the ball past the North Park goalkeeper.
- Northern took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
- The Vikings tied the score with a goal on a penalty kick from Willy Wickman in the 53rd minute.
- With time winding down, junior Ryan Sommerfeld (Dublin/Coffman) got the ball from junior Gavin Marshall (Troy), sent a cross into the box, and Schirmer headed the ball into the back of the net in the 88th minute for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
- Sommerfeld led ONU in shots with four.
- Junior Lucas Hickey (Conroe, Tex./Oak Ridge) played all 90 minutes in goal for ONU and recorded four saves.
Notables
- Shaffer's goal was his fourth of the season and seventh of his career.
- Schirmer's goal was his first of the season and second of his career.
- Saturday marked Northern's second victory over a ranked team this season, as the Polar Bears defeated then-No. 5 Kenyon on Sept. 1.
