NEW CONCORD — The No. 21 Ohio Northern men's soccer team won its fifth straight game Saturday night, defeating Muskingum 6-0 at North Turf Field.
The Polar Bears (11-2-3 overall, 6-0-1 OAC) extended their current unbeaten streak to 13 games and remain atop the Ohio Athletic Conference standings.
The Fighting Muskies fall to 2-12-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the OAC.
Sophomore Gavin Marshall (Troy) led the way for Northern on Saturday with two goals.
The Polar Bears also got one goal each from fifth-year senior Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), junior Ryan Augustine (Gibsonia, Pa./North Catholic) and sophomores Nate Gottron (Centerville) and Noah Zebrak (Cleveland/St. Ignatius).
King got ONU on the scoreboard with a penalty kick goal just 4:06 into the game, giving him four goals in the Polar Bears' past six games. He now has a team-high five goals on the season.
Gottron extended the lead to 2-0 in the 38th minute with his first goal of the season, which was assisted by sophomore William Shaffer (Galena/St. Francis DeSales).
Zebrak added his first goal of the year in the 56th minute, scoring on an assists from sophomore Brenden Gervers (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Shaffer for a 3-0 lead.
Marshall scored the next two goals, finding the back of the net in the 70th minute via an assist from senior Daunte George (Bellefontaine) and again in the 72nd minute to increase his season total to three.
Augustine capped the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 90th minute, giving him two goals on the season.
ONU sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Hickey (Conroe, Texas/Oak Ridge) recorded his first career shutout, improving his season record to 5-0-1.
Northern out-shot the Muskies 39-2 in the game and finished with an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears return to action on Wednesday for a game at OAC foe Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m.
