ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team got six goals from six different players and cruised to a 6-1 win over Heidelberg on Wednesday night at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (8-2-3 overall, 3-0-1 OAC) extended their current unbeaten streak to 10 games while keeping the Student Princes (0-12-1 overall, 0-4-0 OAC) winless on the season.
Fifth-year seniors Bryan Kern (Rocky River) and Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), senior Aaron Shelton (Ortonville, Mich./Eisenhower), junior Ryan Augustine (Gibsonia, Pa./North Catholic) and sophomores William Shaffer (Galena/St. Francis DeSales) and Kellan Minch (Beavercreek) all found the back of the net for ONU on Wednesday.
Twelve different players have now scored goals for the Polar Bears this season.
Northern got on the scoreboard first just 12:59 into the game when Kern scored his fourth goal of the season on an assist from King.
Shaffer put ONU up 2-0 in the 18th minute via an assist from Shelton, but HU's Simon Joseph cut that lead in half with a goal in the 22nd minute.
King capped the first-half scoring with his third goal of the year, giving Northern a 3-1 lead in the 28th minute courtesy of an assist from Kern.
Shelton made it a 4-1 game with a goal assisted by sophomore Ryan Parker (Lexington) in the 62nd minute, tying him with Kern for the team lead with four goals on the season.
Senior Daunte George (Bellefontaine) found Augustine for a goal in the 87th minute, and Minch closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with less than a minute remaining.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Hickey (Conroe, Texas/Oak Ridge) recorded two saves and improved to 2-0-1 on the season for Northern.
Sigurd Ilestad recorded seven saves for Heidelberg.
ONU out-shot HU by a 30-3 margin, including 13-3 in shots on goal, and finished with an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday for a road game at OAC foe John Carroll at 7 p.m.
