WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team posted a 1-1 draw at Otterbein on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium.
The first half saw the Polar Bears (6-2-3 overall 1-0-1 OAC) and Cardinals (6-1-2 overall 0-0-2 OAC) trade four shots each, with neither team able to find the back of the net.
Northern started the second half stong, with two shots on goal in the first two minutes, but it was the third shot from fifth-year senior Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) in the 53rd minute that broke the scoreless tie.
Fifth-year senior Bryan Kern (Rocky River) assisted King's goal.
That marked King's second goal of the season and Kern's fourth assist.
The defensive battle continued for the next 36 minutes that saw the teams trade 11 more shots before Gabe Sharrock got a shot past the ONU defense with an assist from Luke Crockett in the 89th minute.
Sophomore Lucas Hickey (Conroe, Texas/Oak Ridge) had three saves in goal in his first start as a keeper for ONU.
Otterbein finished Wednesday's game with a slim 12-11 edge in shots, while ONU had a 9-4 edge in shots on goal and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears return to the field on Saturday to continue Ohio Athletic Conference play when they host Capital at 1 p.m. at Kerscher Stadium.
