ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team closed out the week with a 1-1 draw with No. 8 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) on Sunday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (5-2-1 overall) and Tartans (7-0-1 overall) battled bouts of inclement weather in the game, including a one-hour lightning delay that began with 38:38 remaining in the opening half.
The teams played to a scoreless draw at halftime, but the Tartans took the lead just over six minutes into the second half.
CMU's Ethan Vertal scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 52nd minute on an assist from Josh Baugh.
It didn't take long for ONU to answer, though, as sophomore Ryan Parker (Lexington) netted the equalizer in the 62nd minute on an assist from fifth-year senior Bryan Kern (Rocky River).
With the score still tied, the Polar Bears had one last opportunity for the win with a close-range free kick opportunity with under 30 seconds remaining but were unable to capitalize.
ONU finished the game with a 17-7 edge in shots, while CMU held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears return to the field on Wednesday when they host Trine (Ind.) at 7 p.m. for their final non-conference game of the season.
