STERLING, Scotland — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team finished its 10-day trip to the United Kingdom unblemished with a 3-0 victory over Sterling Albion FC Development Squad on Tuesday evening.
Northern also defeated Falkirk FC Development Squad 4-0 on Tuesday and topped Hammersmith FC 2-0 and Aldershot FC Development Squad 6-2 last week to finish its trip with a perfect 4-0-0 record.
Against Sterling, the hosts nearly got on the board first in the seventh minute when they rang a shot off the post.
Three minutes later, sophomore Tanner Locke (Canton, Mich./Salem) scored off an assist from junior Ben Sundermann (Miamisburg), giving the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead.
Senior Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) blasted a free kick past the keeper from more than 30 yards out in the 28th minute to put ONU ahead 2-0.
Sophomore Nate Gottron (Centerville) wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 44th minute off an assist from sophomore Ryan Parker (Lexington).
Sterling's squad is the developmental team of Sterling Albion FC, which competes in the fourth level Scottish league. It was composed primarily of players aged 17-20.
The Polar Bears will have a short night as they will fly back home from Glasgow early on Wednesday morning.
