WESTERVILLE — Seniors Seth Gundlach (Wilmington) and Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) each scored a goal as the Ohio Northern men's soccer team tied No. 8 Otterbein 2-2 on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium in Westerville.

The Polar Bears are now 9-6-3 overall and 4-3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals are 12-0-4 overall and 6-0-2 in the OAC.

After Otterbein broke a 1-1 tie in the 65th minute, freshman Ryan Sommerfeld's (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) shot reflected off the crossbar directly to King who took one touch and drove it in the back of the net to tie the game at 2 goals apiece.

Both overtime periods only registered one shot on goal coming in the final 10 seconds by the Cardinals.

Otterbein sent a cross to the goal box and had a last-second header chance to score spoiled by senior goaltender John Lombardo (Solon), keeping the score at 2-2.

Gundlach opened the scoring in the 26th minute by finding the bottom left of the goal from fellow senior Bryan Kern's (Rocky River) pass in to the middle of the goal box.

Freshman Sam McKee (Mason) also assisted on Gundlach's goal.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Otterbein answered with goals in the 51st and 65th minutes from Drew Holman and Joshua Conroy, respectively, to take a 2-1 lead.

ONU out-shot OU 23-17, and OU held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks in the game.

The Polar Bears led the shot on goal battle 8-7.

Ohio Northern plays its final game of the regular season on Saturday at 7 p.m. on the road against Mount Union at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.

A Polar Bear win would clinch a home game in the first round of the OAC Tournament.
