ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team opened the home portion of its 2021 with a convincing 5-0 victory over Concordia (Mich.) on a bright and sunny Friday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (1-1-1 overall) got goals from four different players, including a goal and an assist from senior Bryan Kern (Rocky River).
The Cardinals, who are an NAIA school in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference, fall to 2-2-0.
Northern scored just 14:32 into the contest when senior Seth Gundlach (Wilmington) scored off assists from freshman Tanner Locke (Canton, Mich./Salem) and Kern to make it 1-0.
The lead was 2-0 at intermission after freshman Nate Gottron (Centerville) scored unassisted just 2:34 before halftime.
Freshman Trevor Tabb (Toledo/Springfield) got his team-leading second goal of the season unassisted with 2:50 gone in the second half and it was 3-0 Polar Bears.
Kern scored off an assist from senior Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) in the 58th minute to make it 4-0.
Freshman Kellan Minch (Beavercreek) wrapped up the scoring with 1:14 to play off an assist fromvjunior Aaron Shelton (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon).
Ohio Northern out-shot Concordia 26-4 and had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Josh Ellis (Whitehouse/Anthony Wayne) had one save in goal to record his second career shutout.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at 1 pm when they host another NAIA opponent, Huntington (Ind.), at Kerscher Stadium.
