ADA — Sophomore Jeffrey Firestone (Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and junior Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored goals just 28 seconds apart midway through the first half to lead Ohio Northern to a 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer victory over Otterbein on Thursday evening at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-3-1 overall and are 4-3-1 in the OAC, while the Cardinals fall to 3-4-1, 3-4-1.
Firestone scored his first collegiate goal with 11:45 gone in the contest off an assist from senior Zach Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) to put ONU on top 1-0.
Just 28 seconds later, King picked up a loose ball in traffic in front of the net and scored his team-leading fifth goal to make it 2-0.
Each team had several chances to score in the final 75 minutes, but ONU was able to protect its lead.
Junior John Lombardo (Solon) finished with five saves in goal to record his 15th career shutout.
Otterbein out-shot Ohio Northern 16-6 and had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their regular season on Sunday with a 2 pm home match against Mount Union on Senior Day at Kerscher Stadium.
