TIFFIN — Junior Bryan Kern (Rocky River) scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist to lead the Ohio Northern men's soccer to a 6-2 victory Thursday night at Heidelberg at Mayer Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 2-3-1 overall and are 2-3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Student Princes fall to 0-6-0, 0-6-0.
Northern scored three times in a 4:29 span in the first half to take a 3-0 lead with 8:05 left in the first half.
Junior Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored the first goal off an assist from Kern at 32:26 of the opening half.
Kern scored unassisted at 34:10 and junior Seth Gundlach (Wilmington) scored off an assist from Matt Studenic (Wadsworth) at 36:55 to make it 3-0.
Senior Todd Federici (Findlay) got a goal off an assist from junior Jacob Scheufler (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) with 21 seconds in the half to lead 4-0 at intermission.
Kern added his second goal 9:28 into the second half off an assist from senior Zach Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Northridge).
After HU got opn the board in the 65th minute, sophomore Aaron Shelton (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) scored at 69:41 to make it 6-1.
ONU out-shot HU 25-5, and held the advantage in corner kicks 3-1.
The Polar Bears will return to action Monday night with a 7 pm contest at Capital.
