MARIETTA — Junior Beelal Hasan (Worthington) scored twice to help the Ohio Northern men's soccer team post a 5-1 victory at Marietta in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Saturday night at Marietta Field.
The Polar Bears (9-2-1 overall, 1-0-0 OAC) run their winning streak to eight matches with the win, while the Pioneers fall to 5-5-0, 0-1-0 OAC.
Northern got on the board in the 21st minute when sophomore Seth Gundlach (Wilmington) scored his sixth goal of the season unassisted.
Sophomore Caiman Moore (Linden, Mich.) picked up his first collegiate goal with a header off a cross from senior John Sternasty (Akron/Revere) in the 53rd minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Marietta pulled within 2-1 with a goal just 5:27 later in the 59th minute off a header from Colston Roades.
Hasan made it 3-1 with his third goal of the season off an assist by Zach Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) with 11:59 left in the match.
Junior Jimmy Walkinshaw (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) scored on a penalty kick with 5:27 left in the match to make it 4-1. It was Walkinshaw's third goal of the season.
Hasan scored on a breakaway with 2:37 left in the game for his second goal of the night and the fourth goal of his season.
Ohio Northern out-shot Marietta 21-7 and enjoyed a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday night with a 7 pm OAC contest against Baldwin Wallace at Kerscher Stadium.
