ADA — An unfortunate start blossomed into a pleasant end for the Ohio Northern men's soccer team Wednesday night at Kerscher Stadium. After allowing an early goal, the Polar Bears rallied back and scored a trio of goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Adrian (Mich.)
The win pushes Northern's win streak to six games and improves its overall record to 7-2-1.
The Bulldogs kicked off the game and netted the contest's first goal within the first 20 seconds. Garret Miller scored on an assist from Brad Squires, which halted the Polar Bears' shut-out streak at five. ONU hadn't allowed a goal since Sept. 7.
Seth Gundlach (Wilmington) leveled the game at one with his third goal of the season. The score occured in the 24th minute on assists from Beelal Hasan (Worthington) and Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central).
Zachary Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) gave the Polar Bears the upper hand in the early stages of the second half with his second goal of 2019. He slipped past the defense and made it 2-1 in the 69th minute on an assist from King.
King found himself on the scoring end not a minute later. He fired his team-leading fourth goal into the back of the net off a feed from John Sternasty (Revere/Akron).
ONU goaltender John Lombardo (Solon) finished the game with three saves, as the Bulldogs recorded 11 shots in all. Adrian goalkeeper Spencer Brown also had three saves, as the Polar bears registered 11 shots.
