ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team won its second game in row Saturday, topping Oberlin 4-0 on the road at Fred Shults Field. The victory improved the Polar Bears to 3-2-1 on the season.
The win featured four different goal scorers, three of whom had not yet netted a goal in their respective careers. Sophomore midfielder Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) got things started with his second score of the season, a 27th-minute goal assisted on by junior forward Beelal Hasan (Westerville/Thomas).
Just over a minute later King recorded the assist on junior forward Sergio Bugarin's (Murrieta, Cal./Murrieta Valley) first score of his career. Sophomore forward Seth Gundlach (Wilmington) stretched ONU's advantage to 3-0 with a 67th-minute goal assisted on by junior midfielder Jimmy Walkinshaw (Plymouth, Mich./Canton).
Freshman midfielder Aaron Shelton (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) put an exclamation point on the night with his 83rd-minute goal assisted on by freshman forward Daunte George (Bellefontaine).
The Polar Bears peppered Oberlin with 23 shots — both Hasan and Gundlach led the way with four apiece — on the night and 12 of them were on frame. The Yeomen, on the other hand, managed just seven shots, only one of which required a save from ONU sophomore goaltender John Lombardo (Solon), who completed his third shut out of the season.
Northern has a quick turnaround, traveling to Huntington (Ind.) Monday for a 4 p.m. contest.
