ADA - The Ohio Northern men's soccer program was named a recipient of the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2017-18 school year, the association's national office announced Thursday morning.
The Polar Bears joined a list of 289 college men's soccer programs that received the honor for the past academic year. Additionally, 484 women's programs were honored for a grand total of 773 academic award recipients.
Northern would be among five Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer programs on the listing as Baldwin Wallace, Marietta, Otterbein, and Wilmington also garnered awards.
The United Soccer Coaches recognize programs with the award to celebrate the academic achievements of college student-athletes who collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over a full academic year. The honor is given to college institutions whose soccer programs are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program. All student-athletes on the team roster must also have a composite grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to receive a nomination.
The 2017-18 recognition marks the 11th consecutive season that the Ohio Northern men's soccer program has been honored by the national association dating back to the 2007-08 academic year.
