BEREA — Senior Colin Johnson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) scored 3:42 into overtime to lift the Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday evening at Finnie Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 12-5-1 overall and are 5-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-11-2, 1-6-0.
Johnson scored the winning goal on a breakaway in the 94th minute. Sophomore John Sternasty (Akron/Revere) picked up a loose ball and dribbled 40 yards into BW territory. He fed senior Cory Lains (Zionsville, Ind.) on the right side, who then one-touched a through ball to Johnson. Johnson then finished from 10 yards out for the match-winner.
Northern tied the match at 2-all when senior J.J. Fortner (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) scored with 10:04 left in the match.
BW was leading 1-0 when Sternasty fed freshman Zachary Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) with 36:18 gone in the contest.
The Yellow Jackets got a goal from Danny Ruple in the 18th minute to take the early 1-0 lead and went up 2-1 in the 67th minute on a goal by Cole McDaniel.
