ADA -- The Ohio Northern men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to OAC-foe Capital on a rainy Saturday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders improve to 8-4-0, 2-1-0.
Northern was led offensively in the contest by senior J.J. Fortner (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) as he scored the lone Polar Bear goal.
Capital wasted no time taking the lead as it struck first in the 4th minute of play to take an early 1-0 lead.
The CU defense would hold the Polar Bear offense in check for the remainder of the first half as ONU trailed 1-0 at the half.
The Polar Bears were able to steal momentum in the 70th minute after freshman Zach Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Kamiakin) played a ball into traffic and Fortner's foot guided the ball into the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.
After a defensive battle ensued, an own goal by the Polar Bears in the 87th minute allowed Capital to complete the 2-1 victory.
Freshman Dylan Plank (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim) recorded three saves defensively for ONU.
The Polar Bears outshot Capital 21-12 and won the corner kick battle by a 9-6 margin.
Northern returns to action on Wednesday evening as it welcomes Heidelberg to Kerscher Stadium for a 7 pm kickoff.
