OBERLIN — Senior J.J. Fortner (Maumee) scored two goals to help the Ohio Northern men's soccer team defeat Oberlin 3-1 on Saturday evening at Shults Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-2-1 overall, while the Yeomen fall to 3-2-1.
After a scoreless first half, Oberlin scored within the first two minutes of the second half to take a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, senior Mac Tompkins (Fairview, Pa.) found Fortner with a pass to knot the game at 1-1.
Junior Joseph Schulte (Copley) would score the go ahead goal in the 58th minute as he found a ball through traffic and scored to give ONU a 2-1 lead.
After getting fouled in the goalies box, Fortner would capitalize on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to seal the 3-1 victory.
Northern outshot OC by a 20-13 margin and won the corner kick battle 5-2.
Freshman Dylan Plank (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim) earned the victory in the goal after recording four saves and improved his record to 3-1-0.
Northern returns to action on Tuesday evening at 5 pm as it travels the Manchester (Ind.) to take on the Spartans.
