ADA — Senior Matt Kinkopf (Hamilton/Cincinnati Christian) scored two goals and added an assist to lead the No. 4-ranked Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Otterbein, Wednesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 12-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals fall to 5-4-2, 0-2-0.
ONU would score the first goal of the evening in the 31st minute as freshman Jimmy Walkinshaw (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) one touched a pass into traffic and senior Dustin Lorenzo (Sydney/Sydney) was able to beat the OU keeper to give Northern the 1-0 lead.
After the intermission, senior Adam Subasic (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) would play a long ball to Kinkopf in the 61st minute, and Kinkopf touched it just passed the Cardinal keeper to give Northern the 2-0 lead.
Minutes later, senior Nathan Libertowski (Medina/Medina) would capitalize on a double assist from Subasic and senior Tommy Troy (Toldeo/Central Catholic) to give Northern the 3-0 lead in the 66th minute.
After Otterbein blocked a shot, senior David Janusz (Oregonia/Lebanon) was able to gather the rebound and beat the OU keeper to push the lead to 4-0 in the 82nd minute.
Junior Cory Lains (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) would find Kinkopf in the 88th minute as Kinkopf fired a shot into the back of the net to seal the 5-0 victory.
Junior Dean McNeil (Medina/Medina) earned the victory for the Polar Bears in the goal and improved to 12-0-1 on the year.
The junior posted his ninth shutout of the season and 24th of his career.
Northern will return to action Saturday as they compete in a top-25 matchup and take on the No. 25-ranked Capital Crusaders at Bernlohr Stadium at 7 pm.
