ADA — Senior Matt Kinkopf led the men's soccer team to a 6-0 shutout victory over Olivet (Mich.) Tuesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 3-0-0 on the season, while the Comets drop to 0-3-0.
Kinkopf led the way for Northern with his first goal of the season in the 13th minute and also added two assists on the evening.
Senior Austin Horton got the Polar Bear scoring attack started in the 6th minute as he received a pass from Kinkopf and beat the OC keeper to give ONU the early 1-0 lead.
After Kinkopf's goal in the 13th minute, senior forward Adam Subasic would beat a defender just before halftime and give Northern a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Senior David Janusz was able to extend the Ohio Northern lead in the 58th minute as he received a pass from Kinkopf through traffic and beat the keeper to push the lead to 4-0.
Senior Patrick Sabol would get in on the action in the 70th minute as he received a pass from junior Dakota Swisher and beat the OC keeper to give Northern a comfortable 5-0 lead.
Sophomore Joseph Schulte would score his second goal of the season and seal the game in the 76th minute to give Ohio Northern the 6-0 victory.
"It was nice to get everyone involved tonight," said head coach Brent Ridenour. "We are lucky to have so many great players come off the bench for us and contribute. We have a big game tomorrow night at Wittenberg and we are happy to get this shutout."
Junior goalkeeper Dean McNeil earned his 17th career shutout and second shutout of the season as he recorded three saves.
The junior currently ranks third all-time at Ohio Northern with 17 career shutouts and trails former Polar Bear Aaron Collins by five games for second on the all-time list.
Northern will return to action Wednesday evening as they travel to Wittenberg to take on the Tigers at 7:30 pm.
